Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Operations Supervisor is responsible for a unionized team of over 20 employees. They are responsible for orders and the optimal scheduling of human resources provided by the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) to meet the productivity and customer service objectives of MGT's two terminals.

They collaborate with the operations management team on various initiatives to increase efficiency and implement performance control measures with a view to developing MGT's culture of continuous improvement.

The Operations Supervisor is involved in various service management mandates, supporting operations, human resources management, and health and safety management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning labor orders (stevedores-checkers) with the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) and adjusting schedules/orders.
  • Completing orders and approving time sheets.
  • Communication and coordination with railway operators and the Montreal Port Authority for both terminals.
  • Transfer and supervision of instructions to terminal superintendents based on prioritization - loading – unloading – destinations.
  • Attendance time management and interactions with Grand Contremaitres (GCM) – Stevedores – Maritime Employers Association (MEA).
  • Collaboration with operations directors in monitoring productivity and operational communications.
  • Monitoring the training of stevedores by the Maritime Employers Association (MEA), training performance.
  • Snow removal contract management at the terminals.
  • Participation in continuous improvement activities.
  • Participation in the local health and safety committee.
  • Any other related tasks.

Requested skills

Requirements

  • University and/or college degree in operations management, transport logistics, or any other relevant field.
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in similar responsibilities.
  • Experience in managing unionized staff.
  • Availability for weekend service.
  • Ability to work in rotation (two weeks day shift, two weeks evening shift).
  • Experience in the maritime or transport industry (an asset).
  • French is mandatory, but an advanced proficiency in English is also required due to the international nature of the company and the need to interact with international clients and partners, as well as to support or collaborate with English-speaking colleagues.
