South East Cornerstone Public School Division is seeking a full-time Transportation Foreman for our Moosomin Bus Garage location. Reporting directly to the Transportation Supervisor, the incumbent of this position provides supervision and support to the Transportation Technicians and Bus Drivers in the assigned area. The Transportation Foreman plans, schedules and assigns maintenance work/activities of the Transportation Shop through efficient task coordination transportation management techniques and evaluation.

Duties:

Without restricting the generality of this job description, the Transportation Foreman shall perform such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned including but not restricted to, the following:

Develop, implement and maintain a vehicle preventative maintenance service program.

Review and recommend the repair and replacement of buses and fleet vehicles.

Annually develop and review bus routes to ensure efficiencies.

Ensure that Department purchasing follows the guidelines established by the Board.

Maintains accurate records of maintenance and operating expenses for the transportation shop and exercises effective control over expenditures related to the approved transportation budget.

Supervises and approves the school bus availability and use for field trips and extra-curricular activities.

Provides direct responses to questions and/or concerns from school administrators, parents/guardians, and community members.

Monitors inclement weather conditions and forecasts to ensure timely recommendations to the Division Office regarding bus cancellations.

Investigates accidents involving Division buses, prepares reports on findings and, where possible, initiate procedures to prevent recurrence.

Ensures that accidents are promptly and properly reported to the Manager of Facilities and Transportation and the proper authorities.

In conjunction with the administrators, resolves serious student behavior incidents on the school bus.

Maintain and control an electronic inventory of vehicle parts and equipment.

Develop and maintain a positive working rapport with the bus operators, staff and the public.

Maintain awareness of technical developments and advancement in diagnostics, equipment, supplies and materials.

Maintain awareness of codes and regulations; converse with inspectors for regulatory agencies within the area of accountability.

Road test vehicles to verify complaints or repairs.

Consult with technician(s) about mechanical issues in regards to proper diagnosis and repairs to ensure the repair is done correctly.

Ensures that buses, equipment, property, and facilities are kept in a safe condition by meeting the necessary codes and safety requirements.

Provide leadership, including planning, coaching, reviewing, and rewarding.

Supervise contractors who may be engaged to perform service work for the Division fleet.

Promote safe work practices in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety, Board Policy and directives by supervisors.

Conduct oneself in a manner appropriate to an educational institution that provides services to children.

Prepare reports as required by the Manager of Facilities & Transportation (i.e. cost estimates, planning, inventory & budget).

Be knowledgeable about and supportive of Administrative Procedures and directives.

Be willing to engage in lifelong learning with respect to professional development, training, in-service and courses.

Perform other duties as may be required or assigned by the Manager of Facilities & Transportation.

Required Education, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum of a Grade 12 diploma from a recognized educational institution as approved by the Board of Education or a General Educational Development (GED) is required.

Minimum of three (3) years' experience related to transportation and fleet maintenance.

Minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience in the transportation industry.

Heavy Duty Journeyman Mechanic or equivalent training and experience is a definite asset.

SGI Certified to inspect Heavy Trucks, Transports and School Buses.

Level 1 & 2 Occupational Health & Safety Training is preferred.

Valid Class 5 Driver's License.

Knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015)

Knowledge of computer software including MS Office and related programs.

Experienced in computer diagnosis.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Clear understanding and ability to provide situational leadership.

Ability to prioritize multiple demands and effectively manage time.

Ensure shop safety and cleanliness through understanding and abiding by safety regulations policies and procedures.

Knowledge in tracking maintenance, defect reporting, maintenance programs and repair history.

Ability to provide for professional growth and evaluation of staff.

Ability to use a wide variety of repair parts technical manuals/computer programs to access information relative to the assigned duties and apply this information to the parts and preventative maintenance functions.

Employees must be physically fit and able to handle various tasks involving lifting, bending, twisting, turning, and climbing.

Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Ability to work in a team oriented, collaborative environment.

Present a professional attitude and appearance.

Ability to operate a service truck and make service calls in case of bus or vehicle breakdown

Ability to do Medium Load Work which includes:

exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally (lifting and/or carrying)

exerting up to 20 lbs. of force frequently

exerting up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects
