Description
Encompassing families with students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12, the Social Worker will assist in bringing insight and supported solutions to create an environment in which a student can be successful; achieve open communication and consistency between home and school; and support a holistic approach to student success. This includes families experiencing emotional, behavioural and developmental struggles, individually or as a family unit.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
· Review and follow through on staff and family referrals for support
· Gather information through interviews and observation, meet with caregivers and service providers via home visits, school meetings and telephone conversations or virtual meetings
· Assess information to identify issues, risk and need and initiate appropriate intervention
· Provide support, guidance and problem-solving strategies to families
· Assist with the development and implementation of emergent intervention plans
· Provide information on and referral to community service providers, tertiary care and other outside agencies and professionals
· Provide support and feedback to school staff in assisting families and students that is timely, and at times, emergent in nature
· Collaborate with and/or promote the interests of families/individuals with other community service providers, professionals and school personnel
· Develop and maintain relationships with agencies and community organizations by keeping up to date on services and trends and contributing to internal and external committees
· Coordinate services for families with complex needs and act as key contact and advocate when necessary
· Collaborate with the school-based Counsellors and Mental Health and Wellness Coaches to support implementation of school wellness plans and interventions
· Participate in community of practice meetings with Social Workers in Sturgeon and neighboring regions
· As a member of the Crisis Response Team, support school teams with critical incident debriefs and violent threat risk assessment (VTRA)
· Align practice and service with pertinent legislation including Children’s First Act, Child Youth Enhancement Act, F.O.I.P, Alberta College of Social Workers Practice Standards and review and revise procedures and forms as necessary
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The incumbent is required to possess:
· Degree in Social Work
· Membership in Alberta College of Social Workers
· Minimum of two years of professional experience
· Valid Alberta Driver’s License
· Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to adopt a solution-focused, collaborative approach to challenges are essential to this role. The position requires a high degree of human relations skills, keen attention to details, empathy, adaptability, and the ability to prioritize decision-making.
Sturgeon Public Schools offers a competitive annual wage of $57,000 - $74,000 based on experience and education as well as a comprehensive benefits package, as per the General Employment Conditions. Hours of work are 37.5 hrs/week for ten months of the year.
