About the role:

The Business Project Manager will provide management of complex, multi-stream initiatives combining multiple types of delivery methodologies including Agile, waterfall, and hybrid. The successful individual will have practical hands-on experience leading change and implementing new technology changes and processes into business and operational teams.

The successful candidate will be an adaptable, pragmatic problem solver who is able to challenge traditional ways of working. This individual should express strong leadership skills and have the ability to manage complex strategic and operational initiatives.

What will you do?

  • Lead a team of change integration consultants to ensure projects are successfully implemented into Operations.
  • Oversee change management deliverables such as the change management and communication plans.
  • Build and oversee an operational readiness plan that includes deliverables such as communications, process designs, impact assessments, documentation creation, hiring plans, training plans and quality monitoring.
  • Anticipates, manages and mitigate project risks.
  • Reviews plans and progress of different work groups to ensure work is coordinated and continues to meet overall project objectives.
  • Ensures project issues are raised and resolved at the appropriate levels. Keeps project team informed of the overall project status.
  • Manages business and operational requirements by coordinating with business users to help assess feasibility and establish time and effort.
  • Perform project reviews with team to ensure best practices and standards are followed.
  • Provide weekly updates on overall project health.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 3+ years of Project Management experience
  • Experience working with Operational teams
  • Experience leading change management initiatives
  • Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Ability to straddle between Agile and Waterfall Methodologies.
  • Experience leading large, complex operational projects.
  • Strong leadership, conflict resolution and people management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on relationship management and team building.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity effectively and help project team members work with ambiguity.
  • Effectively and concisely communicate project and technical information to provide comprehensive, concise recommendations to management.
  • Ability to influence and challenge the status quo.

Preferred Skills:

  • PROSCI designation is an asset.
  • Kanban Management Professional (KMP) I and KMP II certification an asset.
  • Understanding of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) an asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
