Your responsibilities

You will coach disability case managers (DCMs) to help them develop their skills with a view to optimizing claims (duration/outcomes) and developing behaviours that drive excellence in case management.

  • You will coach and provide feedback to the DCM team to encourage Client-based case management and improve results.
  • You will refine your DCM team’s skills to ensure they make better use of available tools and approaches and improve workload management, forecasting and priority setting.
  • You will support DCMs with respect to change management and overall team performance.
  • You will identify ways to improve processes to better deliver on our commitment to Clients regarding service excellence, quality and finances.
  • You will identify emerging trends through reports and portfolio reviews and develop a plan to address them.
  • You will collaborate with your manager, DCM colleagues, trainers and other partners in seizing learning and development opportunities.

Skills you need to be successful

  • Expertise in short-term and/or long-term disability case management and strong coaching skills
  • A good understanding of the scope of activities in the disability sector and the financial implications for plan sponsors
  • Ability to make connections, identify trends and explain the reasons behind them
  • Excellent communication skills:
    • Genuine, empathetic approach
    • Ability to influence and negotiate
  • Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required to answer calls from English and French speaking clients across Canada and worldwide.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, especially regarding contracts and complex claims
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Leadership and change management skills
  • Proactive and innovative mindset
  • Resilience and ability to manage and overcome difficult and stressful situations
  • IT skills - comfortable using multiple platforms and systems
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
  • Team spirit, positive attitude and drive to succeed
  • A post-secondary degree is a plus

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
