Job Description:

WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU:

We are seeking a Senior Director, Financial Planning & Analysis to join the FP&A team supporting the Sun Life General Investment Account. The role will involve leading quarterly processes such as credit review cycle, IFRS 9 expected credit losses, and earnings on surplus reporting. The Senior Director will lead the SLC Finance FP&A team by leveraging data and analytical tools to provide valuable insights to senior management while helping to maintain an effective control environment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Leading the quarterly credit cycle reporting process, including preparation of agendas, summarizing executive materials, facilitating credit calls with the Front Office and other teams, and ensuring compliance with relevant IFRS accounting standards.

  • Manage the IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss (ECL) process, summarizing the incremental change in ECL, and ensuring accurate P&L for downstream reporting and external disclosures.

  • Leading the monthly global earnings on surplus reporting and analysis processes, including coordinating quarterly forecasting and annual business plan preparation. Presenting valuable insights to senior management.

  • Manage ad-hoc investigations to answer queries from various teams and cross-departments.

  • Responsible for maintaining the control environment to ensure key controls are operating as described and supporting quarterly audit requirements.

  • Leading applicable continuous improvement projects (including the investigation of leveraging Artificial Intelligence) to improve team efficiency and provide added value to internal clients.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • 7 or more years’ at progressively more senior levels within the financial services industry with a working understanding of investments and/or insurance.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, change management, influencing skills, and a team player mindset.

  • Demonstrated ability to make recommendations to management and influence business decisions based on thorough analysis leveraging available data.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and find solutions to meet tight reporting deadlines on deliverables.

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to facilitate discussions with senior management.

  • Experience working with large data sets and building processes.

  • Experience leading a team and building a culture of continuous improvement.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Professional finance designation (CPA, CFA, or MBA).

  • IFRS knowledge/experience.

  • Investment accounting experience, preferably within the asset management or insurance industry.

  • Working knowledge of SAP (or other ledger system), WEBI, Tableau, Power BI.

  • Proficient in Microsoft office tools (Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.).

Salary Range

The Base Pay range is for the primary location of the job. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
