Job Description:

About the role:

This role is within SLGI’s Risk, Governance and Controls team, which is a 1st line of defense function supporting Sun Life Global Investment’s (SLGI) overall governance framework. The Business Governance team is focused on supporting SLGI’s adherence to regulatory requirements and corporate risk policies, as well as assessing the effectiveness of controls across the business and supporting control evolution. This role will report to the Director, Business Governance and offers the flexibility of a hybrid work style.

The Senior Manager will provide independent reviews of marketing materials and act a key advisor to the business as it pertains to NI 81-102 and internal Sun Life protocols, as well as engaging in first line testing and oversight functions. The successful candidate will act as the key advisor to Wealth Sales on sales practices matters pertaining to NI 81-105, and will engage in the review and monitoring of Sales Practice activities, expenses, and provide the required reporting. They will also participate in project working groups pertaining to product launches and product changes.

What will you do?

  • Review and approval of marketing materials (including advertisements, presentations, website pages, brochures, articles, social media) to confirm the compliance with National Instrument 81-102 and internal Sun Life guidelines and policies
  • Review and approval of Sales Practices requests (including as co-op marketing, dealer requests, mutual fund sponsored conferences and donation requests) to ensure compliance with National Instrument 81-105.
  • Test marketing and sales materials and processes to ensure adherence to regulations and to verify controls.
  • Develop and present training materials to meet the firm’s regulatory requirements.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory requirements and how they may impact the various business areas.
  • Identify efficiencies in automating manual processes.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 7-10 years of work experience reviewing Marketing and Sales materials in the Mutual Fund industry (segregated fund industry experience is an asset).
  • In-depth knowledge of NI81-102 and NI 81-105, and a working knowledge of NI 31-103, NI 81-106 and NI 81-107 requirements related to investment funds and applicable securities regulations (including AML/ATF, Privacy).
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred skills:

  • Experience working in an OSFI-regulated environment, with alignment to a three lines of defense model an asset.
  • Have a compliance or legal background and/or experience in a controls function and has a strong understanding of regulatory requirements as they impact business activities, knowledge of the regulatory environment, including challenges and upcoming trends.
  • Be well organized and able to handle a high volume of requests and inquiries from various business departments and deliver within tight timelines.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Strong partnership and relationship building skills including the ability to work effectively with leaders across the organization, as well as external partners and customers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills, with a positive attitude and proven ability to negotiate and influence others to obtain desired results.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
