The human brain imaging lab at Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) led by Dr. Fa-Hsuan Lin develops new imaging and interventional methods to better understand the human brain functions and to improve the quality of life for neurological and psychiatric patients. We particularly focus on technical development in neuroimaging and neuromodulation using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), electroencephalograph (EEG), stereo-EEG (SEEG), and transcranial electromagnetic stimulation (TMS). We are hiring a postdoc with the expertise in MRI, EEG, and TMS experiment design, data collection, and data analysis to join this endeavor.

The primary responsibility of the postdoc fellow is to initiate and carry out concurrent TMS and MRI research. Duties include:

 

  • Develop experimental setups, MRI sequences, image reconstructions, and signal processing for concurrent TMS-MRI to study human cognitive and emotion function
  • Work with clinical and industrial collaborators. Collect and analyze data for collaborative projects
  • Participate in abstract, poster, paper, and grant writing
  • Provide direct supervision for assigned junior lab members, including postdocs, graduate students, undergraduate students, and summer students.

 

To support research, we are equipped with MRI-compatible TMS systems (MagVenture) with neuronavigation from Rogue Research. We also have tailored TMS-compatible MRI receiver coil arrays and TMS coil holders to facilitate concurrent TMS-MRI experiments. EEG systems (Brain Products) compatible with 3T MRI and TMS are available in the lab. 3T MRI systems are accessible at Sunnybrook. 

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or related fields with a strong technical background
  • A track record of international peer-reviewed journal publication for human neuroimaging studies using fMRI and TMS.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills: ability to listen and communicate, as needed to foster a team approach to research
  • Able to set priorities successfully, and coordinate work flow around grant deadlines and grant applications
