Senior Medical Lab Technologist - Point of Care Testing - Temporary Full-time 2024-9683

Summary of Duties

The Senior Technologist will be responsible for providing technical, scientific, educational and supportive service to both internal and external users. In collaboration with management and other senior technologists the Senior Technologist will also be responsible for the following:

 

Contributing to departmental processes such as, performance appraisals, interviews, and staff scheduling. Organizing and improving workflow as required. Communicating with internal/external clients. Generating daily, weekly monthly and ad hoc reports. Maintaining communication with all levels of laboratory staff including medical, technical staff and management regarding technical issues as applicable. Supporting and assisting staff activities to enhance safe practice and quality improvement in the clinical areas. Providing leadership through mentorship and sharing of expertise.
 

Qualifications/Skills

  • Current CMLTO registration as a General Medical Laboratory Technologist essential
  • ART certification or BSC preferred
  • Two years recent Point of Care Testing experience in a hospital setting required or two years recent Clinical Chemistry Senior Technologist experience in a hospital setting required
  • Candidates with successful completion of AACC POCT certificate or enrolled in the AACC POCT certificate program and with advanced experience in clinical chemistry may be considered
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge and understanding of all relevant analytical techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality control, proficiency testing, and related troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to troubleshoot networked instrument issues including instrument configurations.
  • Previous experience performing equipment validation preferred.
  • Effective time management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written required
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills with the ability to foster and support team environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service. Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels
  • Demonstrated effective problem solving, conflict resolution and decision making practices
  • Knowledge of continuous quality improvement and total quality management principles required
  • Demonstrated ability to write standard operating procedures, and validation protocols.
  • Proficient computer skills which include Outlook, Word, EXCEL, PowerPoint and data base management experience
  • Continuous learning and reviewing literature related to professional training
  • Knowledge of ACDC (IQMH) POCT requirements and MOHLTC  POCT policy
  • Proven ability to lift portable equipment up to 45 pounds)
