Summary of Duties

The General Accounting department of Sunnybrook Health Science Centre has an opening for Senior Financial Analyst – Capital. The Senior Financial Analyst will play a lead role in tracking and reporting all aspects of the Hospital’s capital funding and planning, along with multi-year planning for long term capital sustainability. The successful candidate must have demonstrated success working independently as a self-starter in a fast paced environment, along with excellent interpersonal skills.

Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for:

Capital Projects:

  • Central point of contact for Ministry funded capital projects to ensure guidelines and timelines are met
  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to complete & update Master Local Share Plan
  • Verification of Hospital’s ability to meet funding requirements and reconciliation of deferred capital contribution against available cash held for approved projects
  • Validating and providing support to Project Managers on Project Budget Estimates, and maintain tracking of board approvals on projects as required
  • Providing financial support and expertise to evaluate various business cases, funding strategies, and risks/opportunities associated with projects

 

Planning & Reporting:

  • Working with internal and external stakeholders to lead the development of the annual multi-year capital plan and forecast processes (e.g. cash flow, depreciation) for capital sustainability
  • Coordination and completion of Ministry reporting submissions including annual consolidation
  • Managing & reporting on allocated funds towards all capital assets and projects
  • Assisting with briefing notes and reports for capital presentation for executive management
  • Financial Modeling including sensitivity analysis, budget modeling, and any other financial analysis required by senior management
  • Ad-hoc analysis, projects and other assignments as required

 

Process Improvement:

 

  • Participating in identifying and implementing process improvements throughout the department to help streamline, develop, and coordinate processes
  • Informing financial system improvements and streamlining of financial processes where needed within SAP

 

Qualifications/Skills

  • 5+ years of financial analysis experience including capital funding and budgeting experience in a hospital or industry setting
  • Mandatory Chartered Professional Accountant (CA, CMA or CGA) designation
  • Excellent analytical skills, with ability to interpret large amounts of financial data and summarize it to present meaningful information to various levels of management
  • Expert in modeling business cases and building management reports
  • Ability to take initiative and be proactive in owning projects and processes, working independently without detailed instruction
  • Multi-tasker with a solid sense of prioritization and the ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills with all levels of management
  • High proficiency using a major ERP (e.g. SAP) and Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel, PowerPoint and Word
