Anishinaabemowin Immersion Camp Educators
Program Dates and Locations:
- Nipigon Area: July 7-11, 2025
- Geraldton Area: July 14-18, 2025
The Superior-Greenstone District School Board, Superior North Catholic District School Board, and Anishinaabemowin Boodawe Committee invite community members with a passion for supporting the children of tomorrow to participate in this year's Summer Anishinaabemowin Immersion Camp.
This unique opportunity involves working with children aged 5-9, sharing your language, culture, traditions, and experiences in an immersive setting. We encourage all those with a love for children and a desire to support their learning journey to step forward and be part of this impactful initiative.

Opportunities Available
- Fluent Anishinaabemowin Speakers
- We are seeking 5 fluent speakers for each location.
Requirements and Responsibilities:
- Self-identify as Anishinaabe and be fluent in Anishinaabemowin.
- Work with small groups of children (up to 5 students at a time, supported by an immersion facilitator) to support language acquisition.
- Facilitate sessions based on personal strengths and skills, such as music, beading, cooking, storytelling, or sports.
Volunteers
- We welcome individuals interested in volunteering for this program.
- Volunteer Requirements and Expectations:
- Sign a Declaration of Offence and/or provide a volunteer criminal background check.
- Current employees of SGDSB are encouraged to volunteer.
- Assist with supporting students, fluent language speakers, and Elders while learning Anishinaabemowin.
- Parents are welcome to volunteer.
Note: If there are high numbers of volunteers, a schedule will be created to ensure programming is effective and inclusive.
