"Summer Learning Tutor"

The Superior-Greenstone District School Board is seeking 10 Summer Learning Tutors - As a Summer Learning Tutor, you will play a crucial role in helping children with neurodiverse learning needs transition back to school. You will provide individualized support to enhance readiness for the new school year, focusing on social and emotional preparations.

This will be face-to-face support at the following schools:

4 Schreiber Public School

3 George O'Neill Public School

1 Lake Superior High School

1 Nipigon-Red Rock High School

1 Manitouwadge High School

All Positions will be daily from 8:30-3:30, August 19-28, 2024

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting, preparing and planning for student transition to school. The successful candidate will work as a team with Positive Behaviour Interventionists and/or other coordinators/staff to plan meaningful transition back to school, based on individual student needs. Some responsibilities include:

Provide one-on-one support to children/youth with high support needs within a school setting.

Foster a safe and inclusive environment that respects and celebrates neurodiversity.

Assist children in developing social skills and building positive relationships with peers and staff.

Implement individualized strategies to support learning and independence.

Collaborate with program coordinators, educators, and families to ensure effective and individualized support.

Maintain detailed records of progress as requested by program coordinator.

Qualifications:

Educational Assistant, ECE qualifications;

Teaching Certificate an asset;

Special Education experience and qualifications an asset;

Experience working with children, especially those with high support needs or neurodiverse conditions;

knowledge of transition strategies and educational supports for children/youth;

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and team members;

flexibility and creativity in adapting support to meet individual needs.

Rate of Pay: To be determined based on qualifications
