Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to current and future patients of the Genetics Clinic
  • Organizes and prepares patient charts for new consults, family histories and follow up patients that are scheduled with the Genetic Assistants and/or Geneticist
  • Duties include data entry, complete Pedigree development, EPIC documentation and risk assessment tools
  • Assists with screening or triaging of referrals, case preparation and post appointment activities
  • Communicates directly with patients and external providers when results are delayed and/or not received within a specified timeframe
  • Ensure pertinent information is included in all submissions to Ontario Health and Third Parties
  • Actively participate in committee’s and Working Groups connected with the genetics clinic
  • Assists with research studies, chart audits and other educational opportunities
  • Liaise with community partners, specialists and primary care providers in the continuum of care
  • Organize and arrange bloodwork collection for all patients of the Genetics Clinic including out of country bloodwork and shipping
  • Obtain all essential consents, paperwork and prepare for each appointment scheduled with the Genetic Counsellors

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1-year prior experience working in a Genetics Clinic Setting
  • Genetic Assistant Training Certificate is highly desired
  • Excellent knowledge of community resources and liaison/referral experience
  • Expert at utilizing online documentation systems, Outlook, Excel
  • Experience working within a clinical genetics/metabolic service.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical genetics, molecular biology and/or genetics technology.
  • Hospital experience and knowledge of the health system is an asset. Scientific writing experience is an asset.
  • Proven excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team and independently
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
  • Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
  • Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
  • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community Excellent work performance and attendance
