The CASA Classroom Program is a treatment-oriented program that is a collaboration between CASA and Wolf Creek School Division. WCPS is hiring a teacher to join a multidisciplinary team that will support the mental health needs of grade 5-8 students in a single classroom environment located within Lacombe Junior High School.

The CASA Classroom will include up to twelve students from schools in the surrounding area. This teacher will design, oversee and implement the learning programs for students admitted into the CASA Program each semester. Additionally, this teacher will collaborate with the mental health support team from CASA to support students' mental health needs and growth.



Position start date: August 27, 2025. Possibility of an earlier start date, August 18, 2025, dependent on the successful candidate.

Assignment: Full-time 1.0, one year temporary term position, with the possibility of extension beyond the 2025/2026 school year.



Responsibilities:

Curriculum and Instruction:

  • Develops and implements lesson plans aligned with the Alberta Curriculum with primary focus on Literacy and Numeracy for students in Grades 5-8
  • Provides instruction and guidance to support children's individual needs and learning styles.\
  • Assesses and observes student progress, adjusting instruction as needed

Student Support:

  • Helps students develop self-directed learning skills.
  • Provides individualized support to students, addressing their specific needs and challenges.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and aesthetically pleasing classroom that is conducive to learning.

Parent Communication and Collaboration:

  • Builds strong relationships with parents, keeping them informed about their child's progress.
  • Provides opportunities for parents to participate in their child's learning journey.

Professional Development:

  • Attends staff meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities at the school, divisional, and CASA levels
  • Participates in school events and activities.



Other Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the CASA Intake processes.
  • Maintains accurate student records.
  • Follows school and divisional policies and procedures

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education degree and Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
  • Effective organization and classroom management skills
  • Ability to create a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and challenged
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Experience or familiarity with analyzing data and using data to inform decisions and/or instruction
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Growth mindset and ability to use feedback to improve practice
  • Relentless drive to set and achieve personal and professional goals



In addition to the expectations we have for all teachers, the following skills and experiences are considered an asset:

    • Experience working with students with diagnosed mental health or social-emotional challenges
    • Experience in diverse classrooms with a wide range of learning and regulation needs
    • Training in mental health literacy and trauma-informed teaching practices
