JOB PURPOSE:
The York School is looking for Supply Teachers for the 2024/2025 Academic Year to advance the curriculum and learning in the classroom in the absence of the classroom Teacher. When possible, coverage assignments are made in advance, however, Supply Teachers may also receive requests for same-day coverage.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform all regular teaching duties to advance the curriculum left by the classroom Teacher
Set a proper example, at all times, for students and other community members
Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate
Completes a Substitute Teacher Report Form for the regular classroom teacher at the end of each class or teaching period
Understand and adhere to school policies and procedures, including emergency procedures
Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
B.Ed. and a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
Ability to accept same-day requests for coverage is preferred
Classroom experience is an asset, either volunteering or teaching
Training and experience teaching the IB (International Baccalaureate) Primary Year Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and/or Diploma Programme (DP) considered an asset
Strong ability to work as part of a collaborative team
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to interact with students, parents and teachers cheerfully, enthusiastically, courteously, patiently and with discretion
Strong organizational and time management skills
A proactive team player who is flexible and self-motivated with a How can I help? attitude
Proficiency in a technologically rich school environment, and skilled in Google Workspace is considered an asset
