Invites applications for the position of:

BASP Manager (Manager of Before/After School Programs)

Reporting to the Early Years Lead, the successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations of our growing Before and After School Programs. The BASP Manager will directly supervise staff in the Board operated Extended Day programs to ensure high quality, inclusive care for children, ranging in age from junior kindergarten to grade 6, that adheres to the Education Act, the Early Childhood Educators Act, Family Services Act, Ministry Guidelines and Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board policies and procedures.

Salary Range/Hours:

$70,000 - $89,000 per year in accordance with the AESS Terms of Employment.

Permanent full-time based on 35 hours per week (6:30am - 10:00am and 2:30pm - 6:00pm).

Extended Day program hours of operation on instructional days from September to June. This will include March Break and selected non-statutory days during Christmas Break.

Responsibilities:

Project commitments compatible with the organization (service, integrity, respect, innovation and collaboration);

Take individualized action to maintain a current understanding of policies, procedures, legislation and changes to professional practice as they relate to the field of Early Childhood Education;

Assist Human Resources Services in the recruitment and staffing of Designated Early Childhood Educators and/or Student Support Professionals for the TBCDSB;

Assist schools in developing effective schedules for the Designated Early Childhood Educators;

Provide direction to Designated Early Childhood Educators and administrators with respect to staffing requests adhering to the OSSTF collective agreement;

Identify strategies for a safe environment for both students and staff in extended day programs;

Supervise and mentor staff, through face-to-face interaction, telephone calls, emails or providing independent training;

Support Before and After School Program staff to navigate learning and understanding of the requirements of CCEYA (Child Care and Early Years Act);

Assist and model instruction, program development and delivery strategies for the extended day programs, to DECEs/SSPs and staff, review and develop programs to meet the varying needs of school communities being served;

Communicate professionally and effectively when engaging with school personnel, Before and After School staff, students registered in the program, and parents/guardians;

Review policies and procedures and any next steps as a follow-up to requests during visits;

Create procedures for ensuring Designated Early Childhood Educators develop clear and effective communication between school staff;

Address parent concerns and resolve conflicts regarding Before and After School issues and billing;

Act as a liaison with the TBDSSAB, the Ministry of Education and internal TBCDSB departments on issues related to the extended day program planning, registration, billing and collection of fees.

Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will possess an Early Childhood Education Degree or major in a similar subject area along with a minimum of 3 years experience working in an early years or school setting. Consideration will be given to those with an Early Childhood Education diploma and currently enrolled in the Early Childhood Education degree program.

Additional requirements:

Registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators;

Valid standard First Aid and CPR Certificate;

Valid Ontario Driver's license;

Experience in planning and implementing age-appropriate programs;

Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal);

Demonstrate knowledge of TBCDSB policies and procedures, applicable legislation (Occupational Health and Safety Act, Family Services Act and Privacy Legislation);

Demonstrate exemplary knowledge of play-based learning as defined in the kindergarten program (2016), How Does Learning Happen? Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years and the Ministry Guidelines for Before and After School programs for Extended Day programs;
