With a staff of 14,000, the TCDSB is a dynamic school board and is seeking temporary General Maintenance within the East/West Facilities & Maintenance department.

PLEASE NOTE:

This job award is approximately a one (1) year temporary position, it may end early at the discretion of the Board.

  • Hours of work will fall within the day shift band and may change consistent with the collective agreement. Hours to be confirmed upon hire. The incumbent may be required to potentially work overtime under emergency situations for this role.
  • Flexible home base, to be determined by management, based on system needs.
  • Written and practical tests will be facilitated to short-listed candidates.

Key Accountabilities

  • Pickup and delivery of mail, furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment to and from schools, offices, suppliers, etc.
  • Provide furniture moving services within board sites
  • Load and unload assigned vehicle in accordance with delivery route, if assigned
  • Maintain a clear driving record, adhere to all requirements of the Highway Traffic Act
  • Adhere to TCDSB Board Vehicle Policy and Operating Procedures
  • Maintain vehicles in clean and safe condition and report all mechanical defects to supervisor
  • Maintain working areas within warehouse in a clean and safe condition
  • Disposal and Repairs of classroom furniture and equipment
  • Any other related duties as assigned or required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent candidates must submit proof of Grade 12 or equivalent documentation with bid form)
  • Minimum of one (1) year work related experience
  • A thorough knowledge of the streets of Metropolitan Toronto
  • Ability to give and receive written and oral instructions in English
  • Good physical and manual dexterity. Must be able to lift heavy equipment such as floor polishers, computers, multi-piece shipments, etc. (frequent heavy lifting is required throughout the day)
  • Must be able to work with a minimum amount of supervision
  • Must have valid Ontario Driver's “DZ” license (vehicle with air brake system) (candidates must submit their driver's license with their bid form) and have access to a reliable automobile. If candidates are selected for an interview, they must submit proof of good driving record before the interview. The Board will be conducting a CVOR search as part of the recruitment process.

This is a CUPE Local 4400 union position with a pay rate of $28.40/HR.
