With a staff of 14,000, the TCDSB is a dynamic school board and is seeking full-time Senior Manager, Capital Development & Sustainability within the Capital Development, Asset Management & Renewal department.
The Capital Department manages the stewardship of hundreds of millions of dollars in new construction projects aimed at enhancing student learning and fostering student success. The team collaborates with students, families, teachers, staff, consultants, and contractors to create safe, sustainable, and supportive learning environments. Through various initiatives, the department strives to develop responsive spaces that engage students, inspire curiosity, promote reflection, encourage collaboration, and nurture lifelong learning and leadership.
Several team members are licensed professionals with the OAA and PEO, dedicated to advancing and improving public institutional architecture through the design of TCDSB schools. The department partners with some of Canada's leading architects, leveraging their diverse expertise to continually enhance our built environments.

Key Accountabilities
Reporting to and under the direction of the Head- Capital Development, this position will provide leadership, direction and best practices for the Capital and Facilities Services programs/projects.
- Technical leadership and apply best practices in Schedule Management and in overseeing/directing building issues and ongoing communications with stakeholders including superintendents, principals, senior staff, consultants and other Board staff
- Monitor financial status and controls on programs/projects including consultant and construction contract changes
- Provide best practices and oversight on municipal approvals from the City of Toronto
- Perform support tasks related to Capital Development projects including: preparation of reports and studies for internal use and board meetings; supporting the Department Head with strategic planning of the capital programs; tracking and monitoring the overall program status including schedule and financial status; responding to requests for information internally and externally; overseeing updates to the capital program website pages.
- Act as board representative, coordinate and attend meetings with the school communities, board staff, project supervisors, consultants and others involved in the program/project delivery
- Ongoing communications with school communities/administrators and senior staff
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required
Requirements
- Degree from a recognized university or college in architecture, engineering and/or building technology
- Minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience in contract construction administration in a senior management role with proven project management skills and experience in developing budgets and financial models for capital programs
- Membership in an appropriate professional association such as the Ontario Association of Architects or the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario an asset
- Thorough knowledge of public sector consultant and construction contracts and tendering procedures and policies
- Proficient with a range of current software programs including MS Project and other business programs
- Knowledge or experience in new school planning, design and construction an asset
- Proven ability to define work scope for external consultants and teams
- Proven ability to work with multi-disciplinary groups including school communities, school administrators, senior staff, consultants and other stakeholders
- Proven ability to direct, organize, monitor and supervise staff and consultants as part of program or projects
- Thorough knowledge of relevant government codes and regulations
- Works well under pressure and ability to meet tight deadlines
- Excellent written, verbal communication and organizational skills
- Strong analytical, negotiation and problem- solving skills
- Ability to work independently or with a team
NOTE: This position requires travelling to TCDSB sites on a regular basis. The incumbent must have a vehicle available to use and a valid Ontario driver's license. (Eligibility for mileage reimbursement). Requires wearing of appropriate and current safety equipment for TCDSB construction sites.
This is a non-union Level 7 position with a salary range of $103,609- $124,324 along with comprehensive benefits including pension plan, vacation, and professional development opportunities.
