With a staff of 14,000, the TCDSB is a dynamic school board and is seeking a Transportation Planning Technician within the Transportation department.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a permanent position. The work schedule for the position is 12 months.

Key Accountabilities

Reporting to and under the direction of the Officer, Transportation, the primary function of this position is to coordinate, monitor and provide technical support in the ongoing analysis of the transportation system by facilitating the efficient functioning of the computerized transportation system (BusPlanner) links between school bus operators, Toronto District School Board and Toronto Catholic District School Board, and by providing analysis of the Board's student transportation service.

  • Participate in the implementation and operation of the computerized student transportation system (Busplanner).
  • Ability to work with GIS data layers for use within the consortium
  • Audit and plan the TCDSB & TDSB student transportation service by:
  • Conducting annual reviews of bus routes as required by Board policy
  • Initiating and planning service alternatives prior to the elimination or addition of service vehicles
  • Preparing and reviewing Busplanner designed school bus routes
  • Updating bus routes to incorporate changes as required
  • Processing Transportation Applications
  • Analyze student transportation service to recommend operational efficiencies
  • Provide assistance with data entry into the system to facilitate efficient functioning of the transportation system

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three-year Community College diploma in Planning or Business Administration with computer science courses or other related field of study or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum two years of route planning related experience, preferably in a computerized environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with computer applications/software, BusPlanner software is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

This is a Grade 7 CUPE Local 1328 union position with a biweekly salary range of $2,563.25 - $2,891.33.
