Job Type: Full-time (Overnight shift)

The Senior Intermodal Dispatcher will be responsible for working directly with drivers to assign loads, dispatch, and track / trace cargo.

Responsibilities:

  • Dispatch drivers and monitor equipment status to ensure pickup and delivery standards and other customer requirements are met.
  • Communicate to driver (pick-up and delivery standards), shipper and consignee locations and any special customer requests.
  • Monitor driver location status and provide help and assistance as necessary to protect pick-up and delivery standards.
  • Prioritize the assignment of equipment to customers.
  • Manage the productivity and profitability of the Intermodal fleet by monitoring equipment availability and managing costs.
  • Ensure solid understanding of Transport Canada and Compliance matters, providing help and information as necessary to ensure the driver stays qualified and available for dispatch.
  • Address and resolve problems with shipments in transit in a timely manner.

Requested skills

  • Knowledge of pickups and deliveries departing from QC/ON.
  • Knowledge of pickups and deliveries from QC rail yards.
  • Knowledge of drayage regulations.
  • 5 years of previous dispatcher experience (mandatory).
  • Strong computer skills to check availability, empty returns, and communicate with customers.
  • Bilingual French-English to facilitate communication with drivers (giving directions, etc.) and our customers.
  • Strong organizational skills to adapt to what the day brings and maintain control over tasks to be accomplished.
  • Effective communicator with drivers and team player with colleagues.
  • Ability to dispatch more than 25 drivers in a fast-paced environment.
