The Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology (DMOH) is an academic and service unit within the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre/University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS). The Red Blood Cell Disorders (RBCD) Program at the Toronto General Hospital is the largest such program in North America caring for patient with inherited red cell disorders including sickle cell disease and thalassemia. It is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of expert physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, and administrative staff, who work collaboratively with numerous other departments to provide comprehensive care. The program supports quality improvement, clinical, and translational research initiatives, including a large clinical trials program. The RBCD program also supports a comprehensive training program for residents, fellows, and trainees from different departments. Collaboratively, the RBCD program strives to provide equitable, non-discriminatory care to an often marginalized population.

The RBCD Program seeks to identify a Physician Assistant to join our vibrant multidisciplinary team to provide outstanding care to individuals with red cell disorders including thalassemia and sickle cell disease.

The PA will be based at the Toronto General Hospital, and function within DMOH while providing care in a multidisciplinary team setting. The PA will focus on improving equitable access to outpatient standard of care as per treatment guidelines, participate in medication adherence and monitoring optimization strategies, deliver quality patient-focused care, and evaluate and manage therapy-related symptoms. The PA will be offered training and educational opportunities both at orientation and on an ongoing basis. The PA will work in a supervised capacity with opportunity to develop more independence over time. The PA will have opportunities for participation in patient education and quality improvement. There will also be an expectation to develop their potential as a leader and teacher in DMOH.
