As an integral member of Allied Health, the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides swallowing and communication intervention to patients in the Rumsey Neuro Outpatient Stroke Program. The successful candidate will: provide evidence-based assessment, management and counselling of patients with voice, fluency, language, cognitive-communicative, swallowing and motor speech disorders. They will also provide treatment and education services to patients, with a focus on maximizing patients functional abilities. Rehabilitation potential of patients based on environmental considerations, assessments of other health care professionals as well as speech and language assessment will result in innovative individual and group-based models of clinical intervention, realistic goals and objectives for effective patient management, and referrals to community agencies where appropriate. The SLP will facilitate communication exchanges between patients and other professions; provide family members, caregivers, and staff, education in management techniques/approaches; initiate and participate in inter-professional and service specific patient-focused research; participate in program planning and quality improvement initiatives. The SLP may also provide clinical supervision to SLP graduate students, interns, volunteers and CASLPO initial practice. The successful candidate may provide cross program coverage in the other programs at Rumsey Neuro including ABI and Multiple Sclerosis programs as needed.
