Temporary part-time from January 23, 2025 to April 23, 2025
(Less than 24 hours a week)

Position Description:

The University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus invites applications for a fixed term part-time College Lecturer, teaching in the Agriculture Associate Diploma Program. The position is based at the Ridgetown Campus, in the municipality of Chatham-Kent, 200km southwest of the University’s main campus in Guelph.

Assigned Course:

DAGR*2200 Cereal and Forage Management

Best management practices of small grain cereals and forages are discussed. Topic areas include the latest information on the value of small grain cereals and forages in crop rotations, physiology of small grain and forage species, intensive cereal management, crop enterprise budgeting, tillage practices, crop diagnostics, crop scouting practices, variety and species selection, soil fertility management, planting dates, row widths, seeding rates, and pest management strategies.

There are three (3) lecture hours and two (2) lab hours per week for three (3) lab sections.

The course is scheduled as follows:

Monday: 8:00am-8:50am (lecture), 1:00pm-2:50pm (lab)

Wednesday: 8:00am-8:50am (lecture), 1:00pm-2:50pm (lab)

Thursday: 12:00pm-12:50pm (lecture)

Friday: 3:00pm-4:50pm (lab)

Position Requirements:

  • An undergraduate or master's degree in a related field (Agriculture, etc.) with three years of experience working in a related industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Applied knowledge of North American agriculture is preferred.
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is preferred.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to develop presentations for diploma students.
  • Ability to incorporate relevant, practical, hands-on experience into teaching methods.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office and internet applications.
  • Demonstrated record of diplomacy and teamwork.
  • Passion for teaching and commitment to student success.
