General Purpose

Reporting to the Administrative Officer, the Financial Clerk is responsible for clerical duties associated with expenditures and follow-up on accounts in the department, as well as other administrative duties to assist with the operation of the Department of Physics supporting faculty, staff, graduate students and research personnel in the department.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Financial Clerk will be responsible for departmental purchases, record keeping, monthly credit card reconciliation, data entry, assisting with expense and travel claims, cheque requisitions, deposits and invoicing. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining departmental supplies and preparing outgoing courier paperwork, as well as other administrative duties and assignments from the Administrative Officer to assist with the operation of the main office and overall department. This role also includes light setup/clean up for departmental events and assisting with travel arrangements for departmental guests.

Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation plus some related post-secondary education with some related experience in purchasing and/or accounting.

  • A high level of diplomacy, tact, judgment and the ability to make decisions using integrity and sound judgement.

  • The ability to multi-task while maintaining a high quality of work.

  • A high level of attention to detail, strong organizational skills and proven ability to prioritize a challenging workload

  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Candidates must have advanced skill in using Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams) as well as Adobe Acrobat.

  • An understanding of academic programs, university policies and procedures, and administrative systems are considered an asset.

Employee Type: Temporary
Hourly rate: $23.89 - $26.68 per hour
