Duties and Responsibilites

Reporting to the Administrative Officer, this position will be primarily responsible for undergraduate Geology instruction and technician support for field research and undergraduate courses. This includes: responsibility for 2 Distance Education courses which are collectively taught 5 times per year, delivery of field and lab components for undergraduate geology courses, to act as the lab manager for first year Environmental Science courses, support for undergraduate field courses including logistics and planning, maintenance of lab equipment, curation and care for the SES rock collection, conducting field and lab measurements that form part of a Faculty members research program, and other departmental support activities as assigned including support for the departmental Video Conferencing Equipment.

Requirements

Requirements of the position include: Master’s degree in Environmental Earth Science or equivalent and three years of relevant experience. Experience as an instructor including designing curriculum, marking and managing GTA’s preferred. Good understanding of the teaching and learning technologies used at the University of Guelph. High degree of familiarity with most concepts dealt with in undergraduate Geology courses. The ability to lead field trips and lab sections, including a broad understanding of laboratory equipment and practices. Familiarly with safety procedures in the lab and field. Formal lab training including the use of microscopes would be an asset. Driver’s license in good standing required.
