As a member of the Engagement Services team, the Stewardship Engagement Officer will share responsibility for the way in which the University thanks, recognizes, informs, involves and inspires its donors.

Duties and Responsibilites

The Stewardship Engagement Officer is primarily responsible for directing mass donor communication and engagement processes including the annual Impact of Giving report and various donor newsletters and communications. They are responsible for developing and executing an annual stewardship engagement program, leveraging and collaborating with colleagues on annual initiatives such as National Philanthropy Day and Giving Tuesday. The Stewardship Engagement Officer provides oversight to and delivers our Loyal Donor program and university-wide award donor reporting.

The Stewardship Engagement Officer will also play an important role in key initiatives, such as donor appreciation events and annual endowment reporting. The Stewardship Engagement Officer will work closely with colleagues in coordinating some gift announcements, room namings, facility openings, and other smaller functions. This role will also produce appropriate acknowledgement materials throughout the year and support internal processes intended to ensure that the University of Guelph acknowledges and informs its donors.

The Stewardship Engagement Officer will have proven project management, organization, writing, event management and communication skills to work with donors, prospects and key internal stakeholders. Changing trends in engagement require dedicated resources. Today, donors and alumni demand a personal approach that includes personal interaction and targeted communications to increase engagement and ultimately giving.

Requirements

  • University degree in communications, marketing, or related discipline, along with three to five (3-5) years’ experience in fundraising. A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation preferred.
  • Experience in alumni affairs or fundraising is required.
  • Experience in event coordination and planning is required, including event evaluations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
  • End-user Database experience (query and entry).
  • Sound judgement, tact, diplomacy, excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially written communication.
  • Experience in program development and strategic planning.
  • Experience in managing volunteers and student employees (recruitment, training, retention and support, recognition).
  • Previous project management experience, including the development of critical paths.
  • Previous experience developing donor relations materials and communications would be considered an asset.
