POSITION: Intensive Support Teacher

FTE: 1.0

LOCATION: TBD (support is provided across the UCDSB)

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1

This position is for the balance of the 24/25 school year.

Summary:

Under the direction of the Principal and Vice Principal of Special Education, the Intensive Support Teacher will support and build capacity for staff in schools in developing programs and interventions for students identified with exceptional needs in support of a 90% graduation rate.

Responsibilities:

· To implement and support Ministry of Education initiatives, including those outlined in Policy/Program Memorandums 140/156

· Tracking and reporting implementation of PPM 140/156

· Supporting schools with the implementation of PPM 8 (Students with Learning Disabilities)

· To work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and system staff to enhance programming for students with exceptional needs, including training and system implementation of Special Education standards such I.E.P.s, I.P.R.C. processes, SEA processes.

· To facilitate school/community agency relationships (ex. Connections, Co-ordinated Service Planning)

· To liaise with community agencies to enhance programming and supports for students with exceptional needs

· To work collaboratively with school and system staff, parents, and service providers to enhance transitions for students with exceptional needs

. Work collaboratively with inter-departmental teams (Teaching and Learning, Distance Learning and Safe Schools) to support system-based initiatives and needs.

· To support and deliver multi-modal professional learning and supports for schools and system staff in developing programs and interventions for students with exceptional needs

· To facilitate and build capacity in assessment and evaluation that informs teaching practice

Knowledge/Skills:

· Demonstrated knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis

. Demonstrated knowledge of the range of exceptionalities and intervention strategies for students with exceptional needs

· Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of assistive technology (e.g. PL2G, MS Tools)

. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of technology to support multiple learning platforms

· Demonstrated knowledge and skill in working with students with a wide range of exceptionalities

· Demonstrates a growth mindset

· Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the Ontario curriculum

· Excellent organizational, presentation and time management skills

· Exemplary interpersonal and team building skills

· Familiar with a wide range of assessment tools, communication strategies and safety strategies and requirements

· Knowledge of instructional strategies and formats to engage students and inform teaching practice (differentiated instruction, universal design for learning, assessment and evaluation)

. Knowledge of response to intervention (e.g. tiers)

. Knowledge of conditions that can present barriers to learning (e.g. stress)

· Professional demonstration of Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession

· Understands professional development and its impact on student learning

· Demonstrates knowledge of equitable and inclusive education practices and has an understanding of culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy

· Effectively communicates and works with school staff, community resources and Psychological Services

Qualifications:

An Ontario Teacher’s Certificate of Qualification

Special Education Part 1

Hold Qualifications in 2 divisions, 3 preferred

Specialist qualification in areas such as Special Education, ESL, FSL, Reading or Math an asset

Minimum of 5 years teaching experience

Member of the Ontario College of Teachers in good standing

Conditions:

· Salary - grid plus travel allowance

Term - maximum one school year, 2024/2025.

· Travel will be required as part of this position

. Ability to facilitate virtual meetings and professional development are required for this position.
