Description
The youth care worker will provide one-on-one and small group counselling for students and will provide programming to educate high school students on overall well-being.
Specific duties:
Perform short term counselling and crisis intervention for high school students as needed
Provide programming to educate students regarding well-being issues
Consult with teachers and explore possible strategies and solutions for the concerns that arise to support students
Maintain confidential records of interactions with students
Guidance for teachers in identifying students who may require additional support and intervention
Identify areas of concern with students and develop strategies to improve the interactions between students
To implement restorative justice procedures following discipline incidents
To meet regularly with the counselling team and school base team
To act as a coordinated and integrated support team to meet individual needs
To act as a coordinated and integrated support team to meet group or grade level needs
To facilitate communication with parents from the integrated support team to offer consistent and coordinated advice in supporting their children
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, education, or a related field.
Previous experience working with youth in educational, counselling, or social service settings is preferred. This could include internships, volunteer work, or paid positions.
Certifications such as Certified Child and Youth Care Worker (CCYCW), Certified Youth Care Practitioner (CYCP), or other relevant certifications in counseling or social work preferred.
A strong understanding of child and adolescent development, behavior management techniques, trauma-informed care, and relevant laws and regulations (such as child protection laws) is essential.
Christian counselling or perspective courses will be an asset
Salary range $28.70 - $31.67 per hour (dependent on education, qualifications, and experience)
