Come work as a full time Hospitalist - Thoracic Surgery with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)]!
The service is seven days a week (rotating week-ends), nine hours per day of day-time coverage for a ward of approximately 18 beds.
Part time hours can be considered.
As Hospitalist - Thoracic Surgery with Vancouver Coastal Health], you will:
- Provide medical coverage for the Thoracic Surgery Ward at Vancouver General Hospital.
- Work in close collaboration with the Thoracic Surgeons and nurse
practitioners to provide medical care for the full-scope of thoracic surgery patients
including lung-transplant. - Provide medical coverage to the JPP South T12 Ward and the Thoracic Consult Service at Vancouver General Hospital.
- The Physicians will provide in total 3,294 hours of service (1.96 FTE) on-site per annum, as further particularized below:
- On admission, a full history and a detailed examination of the patient, developing a treatment plan and associated orders, and documentation;
- Daily visits and subsequent visits on the same day with documentation; and
- A discharge visit and completion of discharge summary within forty-eight (48) hours of discharge, arranging for follow-up of the patient as appropriate, medication reconciliation.
- Provision of concise, clear, legible documentation of patient progress and plans, including a plan of care on admission;
- Consultation with other physicians and health care providers;
- Telephone consultations with other physicians;
- Completion of patient and hospital records including dictated discharge summaries as required;
- Making and maintaining an adequate medical record of the encounter.
- Promote efficiency in the management of the acute care capacity by monitoring hospital admissions and discharges;
- Promote efficient bed utilization by implementing best practice in system management including participation in discharge planning and family meetings;
- Clinically related administrative services associated with patient care
- Participation in the evaluation of the efficiency, quality and delivery of the Services, including and without limiting the generality of the foregoing, participation in medical audits, peer and interdisciplinary reviews, chart reviews and incident reviews; and
- Participation in all quality and patient safety initiatives as required by the VCH Medical Staff Rules and Bylaws or as otherwise agreed to between the parties from time to time.
- Those activities that are necessary to satisfy the Physician’s obligations under Article 14 and Appendix 3 of this Contract.
- Submit to VCH all reports reasonably required by the VCH within thirty (30) days of the VCH’s written request.
- On-call arrangements and compensation for on-call availability will be addressed in a separate agreement.
- Work with VCH to determine meaningful quality indicators to be included in this Contract. These indicators will be reviewed annually by the Physicians and VCH. VCH and the Physicians will work together to develop and implement mitigation strategies for those indicators not meeting the benchmark.
Education, Licensing, & Experience:
- Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) License -Full or eligible
- Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP) -Mandatory
- Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)-Mandatory
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) -Mandatory
- Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)-Mandatory
- Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC)-Mandatory
- Hospitalist experience (at least 1 year) is mandatory, and
applicants for permanent positions are expected to have hospitalist work experience
at VGH in the last 12 months
