Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Rehabilitation Assistant to join the Telehealth & Innovation Deployment, Education & Sustainment (TIDES) team at Squamish Hospital. Apply today to join our team!

As a Rehabilitation Assistant focused in Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy you will:

  • Work as a member of the TIDES (Telehealth & Innovation Deployment, Education & Sustainment) Rehabilitation Team to provide quality patient/client-focused services in acute and community settings, which may include travel to the patient/client location.
  • Under the operational supervision of the Director/Manager, practice supervision of the OT/PT/SLP Practice Coordinators/Lead, and the work direction of the TIDES OT/PT/SLP, carry out established rehabilitation activities within the OT/PT/SLP scope of practice.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • receiving assignments and implementing lower risk interventions related to the clinical aspects of the OT, PT and/or SLP care plans,
    • demonstrating and teaching activities,
    • adapting devices to enable to maximize potential for independence,
    • and assisting with practicing daily living skills.
  • Responsible for Telehealth scheduling, set-up, and tasks assigned by the TIDES OT/PT/SLP in person and/or via Telehealth technologies.
  • Report relevant observations of patient/client progress and behaviours.
  • Provide direction to volunteers, organizes equipment and supplies for activities, organizes and cleans equipment, and maintains established inventory of supplies.

ABOUT THE TIDES PROGRAM:

The TIDES Rural/Remote Rehab Team combines virtual service with in-person care to provide services to clients living with various neurological conditions. The TIDES Rural/Remote Rehab Team provides short-term physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology for:

  • stroke or Transient ischaemic attacks (TIA),
  • acquired brain injury,
  • spinal cord injury,
  • Concussion (non-sports related), and
  • progressive neurological disorders.

The TIDES Team consists of a Physiotherapist, an Occupational Therapist, a Speech-Language Pathologist, and three Rehabilitation Assistants.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Completion of a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant Program.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License is required. Use of personal vehicle may be required for travel between sites for which mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with the current collective agreement.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
