Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Psychiatric Worker with a degree in Behavioural Science to join the team at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

As a Psychiatric Worker with VCH you will:

  • Work under the direction of the Charge Nurse, to provide specific aspects of psychiatric assessment and therapeutic care to clients with mental health needs, and establish client/family needs above all other concerns.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and revision of client care plans; participate in ward rounds/meetings as required; conduct observation rounds to ensure the safety of clients and staff; record and communicate client behaviours; identify the need for intervention; administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to established protocols
  • Participate in in-service education; respond to general inquiries; transport and accompany clients who are considered unsafe to be alone; assist with admissions; provide personal care to clients when necessary under the direction of nursing staff.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Graduation from a recognized degree program in Behavioural Science plus one year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
