Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Occupational Therapist to join the North East Adult Mental Health team, supporting various Mental Health and Substance Use programs in Vancouver, BC. This position will work for Northeast Mental Health Team and other Vancouver Community MHSU sites as relief. Apply today to join our team!
As an Occupational Therapist you will:
- Provide occupational therapy services and treatments using current theory and evidence-based practice.
- Work in a team-based environment to develop, implement and evaluate occupational therapy services to clients.
- Consult, confer, and/or collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in the promotion of quality improvement activities, interdisciplinary research and coordinating activities consistent with clinical best practices.
Education & Experience
- Current full registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC).
- Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).
- Three (3) years’ recent related clinical experience in mental health and substance use services, including one (1) year coaching or group facilitation experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice within a client-based and family centred model of care.
- Knowledge of COTBC standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners.
- Demonstrated knowledge of clinical practice related to the treatment and care of the designated client population.
- Demonstrated knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
- Knowledge of VCH policies, procedures and standards of care.
- Knowledge of other health care professions and their role in client care.
- Knowledge of research methodology and related processes.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor staff.
- Demonstrated ability to develop educational materials and programs for the designated client population.
- Ability to promote a creative learning environment including ability to use critical thinking in teaching.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with individuals and/or groups.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain rapport and working relationships with various stakeholders based on respect.
- Ability to develop and establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills including ability to manage conflict issues.
- Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections.
