As a Mental Health & Substance Use Intake Clinician you will:

  • Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team to conduct the intake functions for the designated treatment program to ensure linkages between client and the appropriate resources occurs.
  • Perform initial screening, triage and referrals based on client needs, urgency of request and best practices to determine the appropriate treatment and educates and provides consultation to client/family.
  • Provide information to health providers and the general public, establish and enhance relationships/communication within Vancouver Community and other community resources, prepare and maintain client records, maintain and provide accurate intake/referral data and statistics, participate in team meetings and continuing education, and engage in on-going team planning and quality improvement.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Baccalaureate Degree in a related Health Science discipline (such as Counseling, Social Work).
  • Three (3) years’ recent related experience in the designated program area or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Registration with Provincial licensing/governing body of profession where applicable.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Broad knowledge of other facilities and community resources.
  • Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Broad knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of substance-use recovery services in the community and across British Columbia.
  • Demonstrate Knowledge of health inequities and discrimination faced by designated client population.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of harm reduction in a health care setting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of strengths based, client centered approach and ability to incorporate into practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of traditional healing practices.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of substance-use recovery model.
  • Knowledge of LGBTQ2S+ services and programs in the community.
  • Broad knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to client population.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of recovery community agencies, health care agencies and a range of service options available to the designated client population.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of case- management approach.
  • Ability to utilize strategies to reduce barriers to care for the designated client population.
  • Knowledge of facilitation and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of individuals/service providers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain supportive, trusting and professional relationships with clients and allies in individual and group settings.
  • Ability to establish, maintain and facilitate effective working relationships with colleagues and other service providers.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of charts, records and reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with clients, their families and service providers.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
