Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker with a Social Services Diploma OR a Certificate from a Health Care Worker program to join the Adult Rehabilitation Team on Willow Pavilion 2 (Tertiary Mental Health) at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC. As a Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker at VCH, you will:
- Works as a member of an interdisciplinary tertiary mental health team to provide comprehensive psychosocial rehabilitation services within a recovery framework.
- Successfully support individuals in returning to the community through increasing functional skills and abilities, reducing the positive and negative symptoms of psychiatric illness, increasing coping strategies to mitigate treatment resistant psychiatric symptoms, minimizing challenging behaviours, increasing social interconnections and improving physical health and wellness.
- Provide support to the recovery of individuals living with severe and persistent mental illnesses who require resources beyond the scope of secondary mental health services due to the intensity, complexity or intractability of their symptoms.
- Provide a variety of day-to-day physical, emotional, and social supports, advocacy, life skills assistance and support to access resources to individuals with complex severe and persistent mental illnesses.
- Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to assist in the development of individualized rehabilitative treatment plans.
- Contribute to the overall evaluation of the client.
- Observe and monitor clients’ progress, symptoms and behavioural changes and report significant observations.
- Establish, maintain and enhance therapeutic relationships based on respect.
- Promote independence for client while supporting them with activities of daily living such as personal care, including bathing, grooming, dressing, oral hygiene, toileting needs, perineal care and incontinence supply changes; community appointments/errands/activities; and meal planning and preparation.
- Assist in maintaining a safe environment for clients and the team.
- Participate in team meetings, engage in team planning and quality improvement activities, and maintain and update own knowledge.
ABOUT WILLOW PAVILION (VGH)
Willow Pavilion is a Regional Tertiary Mental Health & Substance Use facility located on the Vancouver General Hospital Campus. It is an advanced practice environment that offers wrap-around services to clients experiencing refractory psychiatric conditions. The interdisciplinary team includes occupational, physical, vocational, and recreation therapists and assistants, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers, nurses, rehabilitation workers, doctors, peer support workers and others.
Education, Training & Experience
- Grade 12, Social Services Diploma, or Certificate from a recognized Health Care Worker educational program, such as Health Care Support Worker Certificate, Certificate in Community Mental Health, Human Service Worker Certificate or Addictions Worker Certificate.
- Two (2) years’ experience working in a psychiatric setting with individuals who have complex mental health and addictions issues, or other qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work.
- Successful candidates may be required to successfully complete a Food Safe certification course if applicable to the designated program during their orientation/qualifying period in order to be deemed to have successfully passed their qualifying period.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
