As an LPN at Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:
- Work within the context of a client and family-centred framework and continuum based care model and in accordance with the vision and values of the organization, including Indigenous Cultural Safety, cultural humility, and anti-racism principles, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works within an interdisciplinary clinical framework in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Standards of Practice for an LPN and functions as an independent practitioner, while recognizing situations, such as increased patient, acuity or care, fall outside the scope of an LPN.
- Work collaboratively with the Registered Nurse in direct client care activities, such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating interventions, and coordinating health services.
- Participate in a variety of meetings, including care conferences, and assist with the orientation of new staff and students as required.
- Respond to and reports incidents according to establish procedures.
- Perform clerical duties as needed.
Education & Experience
- Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Completion of recognized post-basic education in gastroenterology/GI endoscopy nursing, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of pathophysiology related to common diagnosis specific to the designated patient group.
- Demonstrated skill in performing LPN scope of practice and standards of care relevant to designated patient population..
- General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction approach and Strengths-based care.
- Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
- Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to perform nursing assessments and interventions.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound clinical judgments to provide safe ethical patient care.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize potential complications and care issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated competency and ability in correct usage of equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to document patient care on appropriate systems/forms.
- Demonstrated ability to provide safe and appropriate telephone consultations and document related discussions and patient care.
- Demonstrated skills in patient/family centered care planning, patient/family engagement and education and therapeutic communication.
- Demonstrated current basic cardiac life support.
- Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
