Come work as an Associate Physician Lead with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!
The Associate Physician (AP) Medical Lead will provide leadership and support for the Associate Physicians (APs) within Vancouver Coastal Health reporting directly to the Director of Interdisciplinary Medical Providers in the VP Medicine/Medical Affairs portfolio. This role involves offering on-the-ground support, overseeing onboarding, providing mentorship, chairing the AP community of practice, and ensuring high-quality care. The Medical Lead will be responsible for addressing practice concerns and fostering a collaborative and supportive environment to enhance the performance and integration of APs within the health care team.
As an Associate Physician (AP) Medical Lead with Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:
- On-the-Ground Support:
- Serve as the primary contact for APs, providing real-time guidance and support.
- Assist APs with day-to-day clinical practice needs, fostering a positive work environment.
- Onboarding:
- Lead and manage the onboarding process for new APs.
- Develop and implement orientation programs that ensure smooth integration of APs into their clinical roles.
- Ensure APs are familiar with organizational policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
- Mentorship:
- Provide ongoing mentorship to APs, supporting their professional development and career growth.
- Offer regular feedback and guidance to APs to improve clinical skills and ensure adherence to best practices.
- Chairing Community of Practice:
- Lead the AP community of practice, facilitating regular meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Encourage collaboration, promote best practices, and address emerging challenges.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and professional support.
- Addressing Practice Concerns:
- Proactively identify and address any practice concerns raised by APs, colleagues, or other stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with APs and other clinical leaders to resolve issues and ensure compliance with health authority policies and regulations.
- Ensuring Quality Care:
- Monitor the quality of care delivered by APs, ensuring alignment with clinical standards and guidelines.
- Collaborate with quality assurance teams to review AP performance and implement improvement initiatives where needed.
- Promote patient safety and evidence-based care across all AP clinical activities.
- Leadership
- Oversees activities to ensure programs service development and delivery is efficient, effective, and integrated across Vancouver Coastal Health sites. Liaise with external partners, including, CPSBC, HEABC, Ministry of Health on provincial Associate Physicians policies and standards.
This is a 0.2 FTE position for a two (2) year term with the possibility of renewal. Remuneration is based on the medical leader stipend rate.
Education, Licensing, & Experience:
- Licensed Physician in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).
- A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience within the Health Authority or similar healthcare setting.
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills.
- Experience in onboarding, training, or mentoring medical staff.
- Commitment to quality care and continuous improvement in clinical practice.
- Experience working with Associate Physicians or similar roles is an asset.
- Experience training or practising internationally desirable.
Knowledge & Abilities:

- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
