Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Clinical Support Attendant to join the Vancouver Community Adult Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) team as a relief worker. Apply today to join our team!
The Vancouver Community Adult MHSU team supports adults 19 years of age and older with moderate to severe mental health, substance use, and concurrent mental health and substance use disorders or conditions. This program is designed to be neighbourhood-based and works in an inter-disciplinary team to encourage collaboration and partnerships with local community services, including family physicians and other care providers.
This is a relief role and will support all seven (7) of the Vancouver Community Adult MHSU teams located around Vancouver.
As a Clinical Support attendant, you will:
- Establish a supportive presence that promotes a variety of trauma informed interventions, practices and clinical services that cultivate safety and respect within an multi-use/occupant community health centre and/or clinic setting.
- Provide assistance to clients with acute, chronic and palliative care needs and/or their caregivers by liaising with the clinician and community services and supporting the interdisciplinary team during the client care planning process.
- Act as a member of the on-shift response team for the site’s fire, safety and security functions and intervenes to fire, safety and security related complaints and hazards including non-clinical emergencies and aggression and mitigate identified risks to the health care team.
Education & Experience
- Diploma in Community Social Service and one (1) year’s recent, related experience in a clinical and/or social services environment working with diverse population and marginalized groups, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Successful completion of an Intermediate First Aid Certificate and a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge and experience in Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction and Recovery Oriented Care
- Knowledge of Appreciative Inquiry.
- Broad knowledge of mental health and substance use issues and treatment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety.
- Able to develop interventions and care plans that are strength based and client centered.
- Demonstrated expertise in workplace violence prevention including personal safety techniques, and team control technique.
- Knowledge of community, mental health and addictions, social and health resources and client care planning.
- Ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with the public and other staff to deal tactfully and effectively with co-workers, public and staff from other agencies, to maintain confidentiality and to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrates ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
- Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.
- Demonstrated exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of general office procedures.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
