Come work as a Paralegal, Legal Services with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!
Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, the Paralegal is a key member of the Legal Services department and performs legal, case and document management, and research support for the legal team as directed. Duties and responsibilities include: reviewing, and collating records and evidence as required for administrative tribunal hearings, court, or legal team projects. The Paralegal will also prepare and send correspondence; schedule meetings for Associate General Counsel and senior legal counsel as directed, maintain bring forward systems; conduct research and organize and analyze information for presentation; assist with the preparation for hearings and court appearances; maintain filing, precedents and case management and database systems, including the case management system for Public Health, and assists Legal Counsel as necessary with presentations, project work, and other related tasks.

As a Paralegal, Legal Services with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
Open, update, maintain, index and assemble digital files and records.
Maintain record management system for all Legal Orders and other documents of legal significance referred for advising to the Legal Department.
Liaise with Court and Administrative Tribunal Registries and oversees accurate filing and retrieval of court and tribunal documents.
Draft correspondence and provide administrative support in the preparation of legal documentation including memoranda, committee meeting materials, pleadings, and other administrative tribunal and court filings.
Prepare and distribute minutes for key health sector meetings.
Check and edit legal forms and documents for accuracy; make recommendations on precedents and presentation of documents to enhance professional presentation of materials, and maintains legal precedent library.
Use document management expertise to assist with the maintenance of a centralized electronic file management system (NetDocuments) for the Legal Department.
Provide assistance to Associate General Counsel, Senior Legal Counsel and Legal Counsel as directed with presentations, project work, minute-taking, calendar updates, and other tasks as assigned.
Carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately report unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or completion of a college diploma as a paralegal or legal assistant, plus a minimum of three (3) years’ recent, relevant experience.
Knowledge & Abilities
Demonstrated ability to prepare legal documents and present information in a clear and logical format, research legislation, maintain legal filing system.
Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
Superior time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects and responsibilities at once and remain calm under pressure.
Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-deserving groups.
Experience with MS Office including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
