As a Clinical Informatics Educator with Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:
- Provides clinical informatics education services, including individual and group learning assessments and opportunities.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical informatics education programs and resources for staff and leaders within the Clinical Informatics department, using specialized theory and knowledge of clinical informatics, clinical practice, and teaching and learning principles.
- Act as a senior resource to the department by consulting, conferring, and collaborating with clinical informatics team members and leadership to promote continuous quality improvement, resolve clinical informatics education issues, and coordinate activities required for progressive educational and clinical informatics practice programs.
- Take corrective action with respect to individual and group learning needs.
Education & Experience
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Two (2) years’ recent, related clinical informatics experience, including prior educator experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Completion of post graduate course work and/or certification in clinical informatics is preferred. Completion of ‘Educator Pathway Program’ is preferred.
- Local area travel within the VCH geographic area may require the use of a vehicle for which mileage is reimbursed in accordance with the current Collective Agreement.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of clinical informatics and its application in clinical practice.
- Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and standards of care related to clinical informatics.
- Understanding of other health care disciplines and their role in patient care, particularly in relation to informatics.
- Knowledge of research methodology and processes relevant to clinical informatics.
- Demonstrated proficiency in clinical informatics within the designated clinical area.
- Ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate, and lead in the context of clinical informatics.
- Critical thinking skills applied to teaching and problem-solving in clinical informatics.
- Ability to develop educational programs and materials focused on clinical informatics.
- Effective communication skills with team members, both one-on-one and in groups, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to function as an effective team member, leader, and facilitator in clinical informatics.
- Leadership and work direction skills in the context of clinical informatics education.
- Ability to promote a creative learning environment for clinical informatics.
- Ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
- Effective consultation skills with the ability to provide expert advice and guidance in clinical informatics by actively listening, communicating complex information clearly, and building trust to foster collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in clinical informatics.
- Ability to guide others in resolving conflict issues related to clinical informatics.
- Proficiency in electronic systems and technology, including the use of electronic health records (EHR) and clinical information systems, as well as other relevant applications such as email, word processing, and presentation software.
- Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
