Description
Department mission
The mission of the Culture, Sports, Leisure and Community Development Department is to improve quality of life by promoting accessibility, participation, and integration of all citizens through the provision of excellent community, cultural, sports and recreational facilities, activities, and services.
Responsibilities and goals associated with the position
Reporting to the Manager – Arena, Sports facilities and Standards, the jobholder is responsible for ensuring that all activities and general programs in parks and public spaces during opening hours proceed smoothly and for ensuring safety on the premises.
The jobholder’s main responsibilities are as follows:
- Performing a visual inspection of outdoor sports facilities and chalets, entering any necessary minor repairs (e.g.: goal lines, grass trimming, holes on sports fields and other playing surfaces, net repairs, etc.) in their daily report in order to ensure that sports fields and other playing surfaces are safe;
- Performing surveillance and ensuring the safety of sports fields, other playing surfaces, and chalets on a daily basis;
- Welcoming participants in the aforementioned activities and entering their comments in the daily report, if needed;
- Answering the phone and informing clients about the programs, schedule, and facilities used;
- Filling out a daily report about the aforementioned elements and submitting it to their immediate supervisor;
- Enforcing the schedules planned for activities and the by-laws of the City of Pointe-Claire;
- Checking the organizations’ contracts of use and settling conflicts and unexpected issues during use;
- Picking up waste (as needed);
- Ensuring that there is enough soap, towels and bathroom tissue;
- Taking out, setting up, and putting away softball and baseball bases, as well as shovels for outdoor skating rinks;
- Opening and closing chalets, as well as turning lights on and off for outdoor skating rinks and other sports fields, as needed;
- Ensuring buildings are closed after activities have ended;
- As needed, administering first aid in the event of an accident, contacting emergency services in the event of a serious injury, reporting all problems or conflicts of use to their supervisor, and filling out accident reports and submitting them to their supervisor;
- Performing any other related tasks.
Requirements
- Minimally secondary IV currently being completed;
- Able to take initiative when problems arise;
- Tactful, calm and courteous;
- Customer service skills;
- Able to take on responsibilities;
- Bilingualism (spoken French and English);
- Exhibit judgement and independence.
Working Hours
Available shifts for the Winter 2025 season:
Tuesday: 9:30am to 4:30pm
Wednesday: 9:30am to 4:30pm
Thursday: 9:30am to 4:30pm
Friday: 9:30am to 4:30pm
Saturday: 9:00am to 12:00pm – 9:00am to 3:30pm – 8:30am to 4:30pm
Sunday: 9:00am to 12:00pm – 9:00am to 3:30pm – 8:30am to 4:30pm
Salary:
$16.50 / hour (White Collar – Annex C)
