Description
Department mission
The mission of the Culture, Sports, Leisure and Community Development Department is to offer high-quality services, programs and facilities that promote participation and maximum integration of all Pointe-Claire citizens. The Department relies on a qualified and professional staff dedicated to the quality of life of Pointe-Claire citizens.
Responsibilities and goals associated with the position
Reporting to the Coordinator – Library, the jobholder is responsible for managing public services (loans desk and reference service) as well as planning activities for adults. He or she also develops the reference, book and audiovisual collections as well as the databases for both library locations.
The jobholder will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Overseeing the quality of the loans service, including interlibrary loans.
- Supervising the staff under his or her responsibility based on the policies, procedures and collective agreements in effect.
- Following up with his or her team on suggestions and complaints from the public.
- Working with the Manager – Technical Services and the IT Division to ensure the smooth running of the computer stations for public use.
- Ensuring the efficiency of the databases as well as certain digital tools in place.
- Supervising the programming of activities for adults (seminars, workshops, film showings, etc.).
- Performing certain aspects of budget monitoring.
- Evaluating activities and facilitators and proposing improvements, if necessary.
- Supervising the planning and production of advertising and various promotional tools.
- Contributing to the general development of print, audiovisual (CD, DVD, audio books) and digital collections.
- Establishing and applying procedures and rules in effect.
- Performing all other related tasks.

Requirements
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences or in Information Sciences.
- A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience.
- A marked interest in new developments and improvements related to information sciences.
- Sufficient knowledge of French and English to be able to participate effectively in conversations and in various meetings and working committees.
- Ability to produce quality texts and reports, in French and English.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
- Additional competencies and skills sought: rigour, initiative, client-oriented (internal and external), interpersonal relationships, ability to plan, organize and control, ability to manage human resources, problem-solving, adaptability, ability to work in a team.
