Responsibilities and goals associated with the position

Reporting to the Senior Manager – Contracts and Inspection, the incumbent will be required to perform a variety of technical and administrative work for the design, development and execution of building renovation, restoration, construction or demolition projects in fields such as plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, controls, fire protection and refrigeration. In addition, the incumbent will be required to draw up cost estimates, produce specifications, draft contract documents, prepare calls for tender and produce other related documents.

  • Conducts studies, research, inspections and analyses necessary for estimating the cost of repairs and alterations, and developing equipment and tooling maintenance programs or projects; produces appropriate findings or recommendation reports.
  • Prepares and evaluates drawings and specifications for projects, repair and alteration work, or equipment and tooling maintenance programs in coordination with specialists from other disciplines (carpentry, electrical, electronics, architecture, etc.).
  • Draws up construction, renovation or demolition cost estimates by performing the appropriate calculations. Assesses the amount of materials and labour required. Enquires with manufacturers about major equipment costs.
  • Analyzes architectural, carpentry, mechanical, electronic and other drawings to ensure their coordination and orientation toward the mechanical portion of the building, as defined by the professional; checks drawings prepared externally by consulting firms against codes and standards, directives, budgets and timelines.
  • Produces building specifications taking account of each appropriate discipline.
  • Drafts contract documents and prepares calls for tender, specifies the execution dates and details following consultation with the departments concerned, and determines the required deposits depending on work complexity or scope.
  • Prepares contract award reports, indicating the costs and rationale; recommends contract amendments, checks costs and keeps the project on budget.
  • Conducts follow-up and inspections for final acceptance of the work; determines whether corrections are required and has them made if necessary.
  • Participates, in a general manner with the professional whom the incumbent is required to assist, in a variety of project planning, design, development, control and monitoring work, and represents the professional as needed.
  • Designs and drafts instruction manuals as well as maintenance programs and standards, estimates costs, works jointly on verifying implementation or testing soundness, manages systems and checks invoices to authorize payment.
  • Prepares site meeting minutes and follows up; finds solutions to unforeseen issues encountered during the work.
  • Performs other ancillary tasks, such as drafting, consultations with manufacturers, compilation of technical and operational data, topographical or building surveys, measurements, photography, full technical documentation and feasibility studies.
  • Performs any other related tasks.

Requirements

A college diploma from a program of study in the appropriate field.  The position requires two (2) years of relevant work experience or any other combination of education and experience considered equivalent based on the established policy. The position also has the following requirements:

  • Bilingualism (spoken and written French and English)
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project or equivalent, and computer-assisted drawings (AutoCAD)
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Tactful, calm and courteous
  • Autonomous
  • Team player
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills and good judgment
