Genomic Scientific Surveillance Specialist

JOB SUMMARY:

As a scientific expert, the successful candidate provides the expertise required for the development and smooth operation of the genomic analyses used at the New Brunswick Public Health Laboratory. The candidate also oversee the refinement of these as needed. The incumbent participates in the development and revision of the wastewater surveillance program as well. The incumbent work closely with affiliated scientists (PhDs), medical microbiologists and other professionals within the organization and those in Public Health. The successful candidate ensures the quality and management of data related to the clinical and non-clinical surveillance programs.

REQUIREMENTS :

 

  • Master's degree in biochemistry or equivalent scientific field
  • Minimum two years' experience in sequencing techniques related to genomic surveillance in public health
  • Minimum two years' experience working in a public health laboratory
  • Experience in techniques for monitoring microorganisms in wastewater
  • Experience in bioinformatics considered an asset
  • Ability to use evidence in decision making
  • Ability to form productive partnerships and recognize the contribution of collaborators
  • Effective time management skills and ability to prioritize assigned tasks
  • Participatory leadership style focused on clients and outcomes that inspires commitment, respect, compassion and equity
  • Commitment, embracing change and managing change with a positive attitude
  • Interpersonal skills that foster a welcoming environment, client care and effective communication
  • Good knowledge of commonly used bioinformatics tools
  • Good knowledge of computer tools and office software and ability to use them (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet)

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical ability to perform assigned work
