The Waterloo Catholic District School Board with a total student population of 38,000, provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12) across the Waterloo Region.

General Description of Duties:
Building and maintaining the union database of resources held by all school libraries and Board Office departments, on which the Board’s web-based integrated library system is based.
Create cataloguing records according to standard library principles for all types of resources and formats.
Through effective description and analysis of resources, support teachers and library staff in their selection of appropriate resources for use in delivering curriculum to students.
Provide instruction and technical support to school library staff in their use of the integrated library system to effectively add, retrieve, circulate, and inventory the resources at the school and department level.
Apply internationally-recognized standard library principles and procedures in the creation of bibliographic MARC (Machine Readable Coding) records for all types of resources.
Produce spine and pocket labels for resources catalogued for The Learning Commons, Catholic Education Centre (ECE), Board Office departments and some school libraries. Processing of some newly added items.
Monitoring and correction of both the bibliographic records and the associated holding information for resources owned by school libraries and Board Office departments.
Provide support to school library staff and Board Office users.
Provide “first-line” software support and troubleshooting with school library staff concerning issues or problems reported.
Involved in the preparation and presentation of more formal library staff professional development in-services, workshops, and webinars as decided upon by the Library Support Services Supervisor.
Support in interlibrary loan requests from teachers.
Fulfill requests for resources from The Learning Commons, CEC collection in person, by email and online using the integrated library system.
Cataloguing Chromebooks.
Participating in training on the newest integrated library system software releases.
Minimum Requirements:
Must have completed the Library and Information Technician Diploma in addition to possessing one (1) to two
(2) years of experience working with children in a school or public library.
Proficient in computer applications; MS Office, library software.
Understand the cataloguing and inventory processes.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and sound judgment.
Experience with Resource and Description and Access (RDA) cataloguing is a definite asset.
Knowledge of the Board’s policies and procedures affecting school libraries.
Knowledge of the current library technology and electronic devices.
Knowledge of the French language is a definite asset.
Ability to plan work, multi-task and prioritize.
Hourly Rate: $28.58 to $30.08 per hour
Hours of Work: Permanent Full-time, 35 hours per week
Work schedule determined by the Administrator
Weeks/Year: Approximately 52 weeks/year
Location: The Learning Commons at the Catholic Education Centre, Kitchener, ON
