HVAC Technician

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board serves over 38,000 learners and provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12 and adult learners) across the Waterloo Region.

General Description of Duties:

Perform emergency services and repair to Roof Top HVAC units, Heat Pumps, Split Systems, Boiler Systems, Air Conditioning and dehumidification systems and associated equipment and controls.

Complete preventive maintenance and summer service on various Roof top HVAC units, Heat Pumps, Split systems, Boiler Systems, Air conditioning units and dehumidification units.

Service and repair compressors, motors, heating sections and damper assemblies.

Troubleshoot heating and cooling controls.

Set up and test equipment, as well as conduct efficiency appraisals on various Roof Top HVAC units.

Able to operate BAS systems for all schools.

Check efficiency outputs and parameters of HVAC systems.

Replace defective, leaking, discolored and worn components.

Perform shut-downs and lock outs to systems.

Make adjustments to pressures and controls. Clean and lubricate components.

Check calibrations. Reassemble and repair components and systems.

Starts-ups, tests and charges the system.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Must be a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Trades

Hold a valid Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Certificate 313A

Hold a valid TSSA Gas Fitter certificate (G1)

Minimum three (3) years related experience in Heat Pumps and HVAC service at a comparable work site on primarily commercial type HVAC equipment.

Hold a valid class G driver’s license with a safe driving record.

Must demonstrate ability to troubleshoot related electrical control systems.

Must be self-motivated, safety conscious, have excellent interpersonal and strong organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment with minimum supervision.

Demonstrate ability to read plans, specifications, blue prints, and manufacturers’ literature.

Must have working knowledge of W.H.M.I.S. 2015 system and safe handling of hazardous materials.

Good computer skills required.

Experience in boiler controls, circulating pumps, mixing valves, and coupling assemblies and DDC controls would be and asset.

Salary Range: $41.54 - $43.31 per hour in accordance with the UNIFOR Collective Agreement

Hours of Work : Permanent full time: 40 hours per week / 52 weeks per year
