The Waterloo Catholic District School Board with a total student population of 38,000, provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12) across the Waterloo Region.

General Description of Duties:

Child and Youth Care Workers (CYCW) work directly with students who are experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioural needs. In collaboration with school and Board personnel, the needs of the students are assessed and appropriate intervention plans are created, implemented and supported. The CYCW may also be withdrawn from their regular assignment at one or more of their regular schools for an extended period of time to provide intensive support for a student in crisis as agreed between the school Administrator and the Learning Services department. The CYCW delivers programs in the areas of: bullying prevention, self-esteem, social skills, conflict resolution, emotion management, etc., in either 1:1 or small group settings, and on occasion in a classwide program. The CYCW liaises with school staff, parents and community agencies to best support the child.

Minimum Requirements:

Child and Youth Care Worker Diploma (3 year) or equivalent.

Minimum 2 years similar work experience.

BMS (Behavioural Management System) is a definite asset.

Courses related to understanding autism.

First Aid Certificate is a definite asset.

Experience supporting students with autism and/or behavioural difficulties.

Experience using data to understand behaviour.

Have a reliable vehicle and a valid Ontario driver’s license as travel throughout the Waterloo Region may be required.

Hourly Rate: $34.93 to $36.76 per hour

Hours of Work: Permanent Full-time, 40 hours per week

Work schedule determined by the Supervisor

Weeks/Year: Approximately 41 weeks/year
