PASS - Equity Specialist

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board serves over 38,000 learners and provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12 and adult learners) across the Waterloo Region.

General Description of Duties:

Designs and facilitates training sessions on foundational knowledge, understanding, values and skills on equity, social justice, Anti-Indigenous racism, Anti-Black racism, Anti-Asian racism, Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism, 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion and belonging, SES, allyship/accompliceship practices and related initiatives. Builds partnerships and relationships with community stakeholders and organizations that serve and support equity-seeking communities to create connections to provide additional supports to staff, students, and student caregivers.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Equity, plan and implement equity, diversity inclusion, and belonging (EDI-B) policies, practices, procedures, and programs to address systemic barriers and build awareness and knowledge of EDI-B for all WCDSB staff members; this will involve collaborating with school administrators, teachers, families, system staff, and the equity team

Create EDI-B communication materials (presentations, videos, and other digital content)

Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Equity, develop and lead accessibility, EDI-B and anti-oppression training programs

Collaborate with the Communications team to internally and externally communicate Waterloo Catholic District School Board’s commitment, practices, and accomplishments in the realm of EDI-B

Support initiatives that provide operational and organizational leadership to grow the capacity for intercultural curiosity, humility, competence, and the nurturance of diverse populations within WCDSB schools and among all staff

Coordinates and assists with the implementation of events and activities that promote EDI-B throughout the board

Engage students and their families by celebrating their cultural identities providing educational opportunities outside of the classroom

Serve as the secretary on relevant advisory committees as a non-voting member

Build and strengthen relationships with various service providers that support the WCDSB community

Other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager of Equity Services

M inimum Requirements:

BA/BS in psychology, social work, sociology, education, diversity studies, public administration cultural studies or related field

Knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Employment Standards Act and the Anti-Racism Act

Three (3) to Five (5) years of related experience in Diversity, Equity, and/or Inclusion work

Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet community needs; ability to work flexible hours

Deep content knowledge of the diversity, equity, and inclusiveness research and best practices for organizations striving to become more diverse, equitable, and inclusive

Outstanding organizational, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills, working in a fast-paced environment with many simultaneous projects

Strong skills in the use of technology including Microsoft Suite, Microsoft Team, and learning management tools

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to self-motivate and to work both independently and with teams, with high personal standards representative of the Board’s commitment to excellence

A valid driver’s license and a good driving record and willingness to travel throughout the community

Desirable Assets:

Curriculum development for adults

Some multimedia and graphic design skills

Experience working with school-aged children

Knowledge of the Safe and Accepting Schools Act, the Education Act, and the Ontario Equity and Inclusive Education Strategy

Deep understanding of systemic barriers and challenges that underrepresented students and families face in the education system and in the wider community

Aware of local community resources and the ability to support students, families, and caregivers in accessing and navigating the resources

Demonstrated ability to be a mentor, advisor, and advocate for students

Experience in handling contentious issues with sensitivity, confidentiality, tact, and discretion

Salary Range: Level 6, $75,918.00- $89,317.00 per year in accordance with the PASS Terms of Employment

Hours of Work: Permanent Full-time, 35 hours per week / 52 weeks per year
