Payroll Assistant (F) Human Resource Services Department Education Centre Applications will be considered in the following order: 1) Qualified permanent ESS/OSSTF Bargaining Unit employees 2) Qualified probationary, temporary and Temporary Hourly Rates (THR) ESS/OSSTF employees 3) Qualified external applicants (includes employees from other bargaining units) Reporting to the Payroll Manager, through the Payroll Officer, the successful applicant will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date records of the Board's staff, in order to facilitate bi-weekly salary payments and reporting of related information to agencies. The successful applicant for this Educational Support Staff position, Level F ($58,203 - $70,969), will be working 35 hours per week, 12 months per year, effective January 6, 2025. Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (with a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break). Responsibilities: Maintain and process employee payroll records for staff, both academic and support, to meet the bi-weekly payroll deadline; Process information related to all aspects of pension for staff; Import, validate and adjust electronic time sheet entries as required; Respond to payroll specific inquiries from staff and consistently apply payroll related government regulations and staff collective agreements; Complete and submit forms, and provide written correspondence on behalf of staff to agencies such as Canada Revenue Agency, Service Canada, Teachers Pension Plan and the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System; and Perform other duties as required. Qualifications: 2-3 year post-secondary degree/diploma in HR/Business/Accounting or similar course of study. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification with the National Payroll Institute (formerly Canadian Payroll Association) is required or ability to obtain certification within 6 months. Applicants with education obtained internationally and deemed to be equivalent to the aforementioned, may be considered; 2-3 year of recent experience processing medium sized payroll, preferably in a fast paced union environment utilizing strong HRIS/Payroll computerized online system experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications; Must have a comprehensive knowledge of current government legislation relating to the payroll function; High level of accuracy and excellent data entry skills; Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize work, juggle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines; Demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service along with interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to respond to inquiries from internal and external clients; Ability to complete assigned duties with minimal supervision; Confidentiality, tact and diplomacy are requisites for this position; Preference will be given to candidates who have School Board or other relevant public sector experience and who have knowledge of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS), Teachers Pension Plan Board (TPP), and/or staff collective agreements or have related experience; and Ability to work collaboratively as member of the Human Resource Services team.
