Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Directly accountable to the Supervisor of Central Dispatch and Material Handling, the Central Processing Aide receives all contaminated instruments, utensils, respiratory supplies and equipment from wards and clinics. Transports it to the Shipping area where it will be taken by courier off site to be reprocessed. Transports clean items received by Shipping and places them in the top up area or has them delivered to user Departments. Cleans and disinfects equipment. Checks equipment to ensure that it is safe and functioning properly. Initiates repair orders to Property Services if required. Maintains adequate sterile and clean supplies in sterile and clean top up stock room. Works with minimal supervision. Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (e.g. utilizing personal, protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies their Manager or their designates (i.e., supervisors) of all occurrences, injuries illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers, or any others who enter the premises.

Experience
  • On-the-job training will be provided.
  • Desirable to have some knowledge of the handling and storage of sterile and clean supplies.
  • Desirable to have knowledge of cleaning and disinfection methods.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Successful completion of Grade 12.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge and support of:
    • The vision, values, goals, and objectives of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and the Deer Lodge Centre.
    • The Deer Lodge Centre's Mission Statement, Residents Bill of Rights and Code of Conduct.
    • Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English.
  • Ability to read and follow diagrammatic instructions regarding assembly and cleaning of equipment.
Physical Requirements
  • May be required to work extended hours.
  • Work requires standing and walking all day.
  • May involve exposure to disease, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, blood and body fluids.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated patients/residents/staff/visitors.
