Position Overview

Reporting to the Director Health Services, the Infection Prevention & Control (IP&C) Practitioner participates as an active member of the Regional Staff Development, Infection Prevention & Control Team and assists in the provision of the Regional IP&C Program. This position includes the, implementation, and evaluation of the Regional IP&C Program. The incumbent acts as a facilitator and educational resource in IP&C for clients and staff. The incumbent is proactive in identifying and meeting her/his own learning needs as well as those of other health care professionals within Southern Health‐Santé Sud.

The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The incumbent functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health‐Santé Sud.

Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience to include at minimum one (1) year recent experience in IP&C.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificate in Infection Prevention & Control or willingness to acquire.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Current active practice registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) and scope of practice as defined by the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of provincial, national and international Infection Prevention & Control standards.
  • Knowledge of epidemiological principles and Canadian Safety Association (CSA) Standards.
  • Knowledge of the principles of adult education, teaching and learning strategies.
  • Knowledge of policy development and implementation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use an analytical and inquiring approach to problem‐solving while contributing to program improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and make decisions autonomously.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and flexibility to meet the demands of the position.

  • Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required.
  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic and other mediums.
  • Good work and attendance record.
  • Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all‐purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00.
Physical Requirements

  • May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Will be required to travel to other regional facilities as the position duties may require.
